West Mesa in the Snow

After receiving about four inches of snow, we wanted to head out and enjoy it before it was all gone. The Sandia Mountains in the east were still cloud covered, so we opted for the west mesa as a short day trip. The sand dunes can be fun and challenging when the temps are high. For this outing, they were damp and cold, ensuring that traction would not be much of an issue. Luckily we were able to blaze some trail through the snow drifts and be the first to hear the snow crunch under our tires. Heading north along he edge of the mesa we came across multiple remains of abandoned or stolen vehicles. They are a grim reminder of the high theft rate Albuquerque is known for. Now they lay rotting obstructing the landscape that can be beautiful at times. We crept out onto a ridge to snag a few more pictures before seeking shelter from the cold breeze. With little to show for our efforts, we called it a day. Upon return home, we found the yard to be bare and just the little snowman remaining as evidence of our best snowfall of the season.
